Jigsaw Farm runs an extensive range of exciting programmes for participants. We are continuously evaluating our services and adding additional activities based on consultations with participants and care providers. If there is an activity you would like to see added to our range let us know and we will endeavour to facilitate your needs.
Jigsaw Farm offers activities all year round covering the four farming seasons;
Spring
- Calving suckler cows
- Rearing dairy calves
- Lambing sheep
- Vegetable and Herb planting including larger scale potato planting
- Flower bed planting and seed bed preparation
- Assisting with normal cattle, sheep, pig and other farm animal husbandry
- Feeding ducks and hens and collecting eggs
- Erection and repair of protective fencing
- Preparation of grazing pastures
- Selling and buying of cattle
Summer
- Vegetable and herb maintenance including some harvesting of early potatoes
- Flower display including making flower boxes and window displays
- Assisting with normal cattle, sheep, pig and other farm animal husbandry
- Caring for piglets
- Feeding ducks and hens and collecting eggs
- Hay and silage making
- Selling and buying of cattle
- Preparing for arrival of turkeys
Autumn
- Harvesting potatoes and other vegetables and herbs
- Assisting with normal cattle, sheep, pig and other farm animal husbandry
- Feeding ducks and hens and collecting eggs
- Feeding turkeys
- Selling and buying of cattle including spring born calves the weanlings sales
- Maintain hedge rows
- Making bird boxes
- Chopping wood
- Maintaining machinery and restoring vintage machinery
Winter
- Housing cattle and feeding silage and hay
- Assisting with normal cattle, sheep, pig and other farm animal husbandry
- Preparing Christmas turkeys for sale
- Christmas wreath making
- Selling and buying of cattle
- Maintain hedge rows
- Making bird boxes
- Chopping wood
- Maintaining machinery and restoring vintage machinery
- Farmhouse baking
- Art and craft programmes
Everything we do at Jigsaw farm is risk assessed and we work closely with our partners in the HSE to ensure that the environment and activity is safe for the participant and the training is delivered in a manner and pace that suits the individual. These seasonal activities will develop skills that the will benefit the participant giving them the confidence and expertise to deliver as part of a team in other environments outside our farm.
Programmes typically run weekdays between 10am and 5pm
